Revive!

This dresser was banged/scratched up from a few years of use, but was still in great working condition.  The owner wanted to bring new life to her guest room, but keep it Boy Theme for when her boys came home from College...

First, I took off the knobs and gave it a light sanding...

The top was in need of a good sanding. Remember any deep scratched areas will show up threw the paint, after sanding the fine scratches out, you will need to use wood filler to smooth out the surface.  Unless you are going for a rough distressed look.

For a professional look (if you are not using spray paint, or do not have a paint sprayer) use a fine sponge roller
Before you roll your paint on, paint any grooves then when you roll over them, you will have a nice even look

In this case we used a white primer, (you can have it tinted red so it is not noticeable)  so it gave an extra bit of character to the dresser, then I took a medium grate sandpaper and sanded were I wanted.  And then Finnish off with a clear coat!
